I got an email from an Ivy League coach saying that he would support me in the admission process and put me on a list of students who would be on the team, but that the slot I would be on would not be a ‘traditional full support slot.’ He continued to say that, if accepted, I would definitely want to join the team, and not essentially burn him, and not join, but have athletics help with my admission. I’m just not sure what this means; it would require me to apply to Columbia early decision, and I would like to know just how much his word would help.
Ask for a “likely letter”. If he won’t give one you have to decide if the risk of missing a more secure ED spot is worth it.
Does he believe you can get in on your own? He may need the slot for a weaker student.
Did admissions preread your transcript?
you will get more informed answers if you ask on this forum: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/athletic-recruits/
It sounds like your FA offer will be based on your finances like the other students. He just states he can give you a tip for admission.
What sport? did you get offered an official visit? what does he mean not “burn him”. Have you met him?I don’t see how he is supporting you if he isn’t getting a preread from Admissions, telling you that looks good or offering far more than what you’ve described in terms of help and support with admissions. .
