Interesting Case for college admissions

<p>I am a decent student 3.945 GPA from 4.3
I have had all Adv. and Honors courses my first 2 years of HS
my soph year I had all A's and a 4.05 GPA
my junior year I went abroad with AFS to France
I can speak French very well, got an 800 on the SAT II exam
my other SAT II's will be mediocre, but not stellar considering I have not had a second year of US history (this could hurt me big time)</p>

<p>this year, senior year I have 5 AP courses, and I am doing fine 3.7-3.8 GPA</p>

<p>my SATs are:
740 Verbal and 650 Math</p>

<p>I have 1 very, very excellent teacher reccomendation (French teacher and 1 good one
my essays should be fine, they will describe unique experiences blah blah</p>

<p>heres the thing:
Im applying to YALE early action, and I am a legacy (father 79')
I have contacted a professor in the French Dep't and he was impressed with my French, and he will write a supplement letter to my application. I will major in French fa' sure, and something else (Economics)</p>

Went to France and hosted exchange students with my school...only Freshman to do so .
hosted French students several times...<br>
in france i played soccer competitively and played in the school orchestra...had a grand old time</p>

<p>worked 40hrs/ wk. in summer at local Bakery
also in my second year of Russian...like it very much and will expand upon that in app.
take japanese at community college </p>

<p>What do my chances look like? What if I applied to Cornell w/ ED with my mom's legacy? What about at Yale?

<p>Better shot at Cornell..Your SAT seems too low for Yale, especially with the competition out there. I doubt the legacy will get you in, but you still have a shot, especially with the French professor. Good luck!</p>

<p>Like Harvard, Yale takes 15% of its freshmen class as legacies. Your chances are good.</p>

<p>I ended up doing Yale's Early Action Program last week anyway. I know my SAT is a little weak for Yale, but Cornell's Arts and sciences median SAT is probably higher than its overall one anyway...so i took this into consideration.<br>
I was thinking; wouldn't applying to a minor department such as French help me alot, because I am otherwise a very average Yale applicant? or does it mean little?
in addition, I dont know what my impression upon the french professor will have with the admissions decision. it could great or trivial.<br>
would it have been wiser to apply cornell ED? what is their policy in regard legacies? My parents have given NOTHING to their colleges.</p>
