Interesting chance candidate II

Hey guys,

I thought I'd get some opinions about my hopes of transfering into Wharton as a Sophmore.

I attend a community college in Arizona.
College GPA: 4.0
High School GPA: 3.7
SAT M: 690
SAT W: 570
SAT R: 570

Essays: Very good and written specifically for Wharton

Pg 217 essay: Wrote about a cake business I started and what I learned for the experience.

Additional essay: Wrote about my dads battle with cancer/liver transplant and what it taught me. Very good.

Extracurriculars: Playing music for 8 years now (bass guitar, guitar). Performed in high school Jazz Bands, Orchestra, Jazz combos, marching bands, and toured Europe with an orchestra. Also participated in many local bands for the last 6 years. I've produced/recorded music for a lot of local bands and hope to own a major record label one day.

My passion for music came across in my applications and I also sent them a cd (a really nice one) of one of the bands I'm in.

All teacher/counselor recs are very good.

Addition Info: Neither of my parents went to college; I'm a white male (18 yrs old).

Any thoughts?

THANKS!

i think all these “interesting threads” just mean “low SAT scores, good GPA, chance me”. haha. it’s totally find, you don’t need to say it’s interesting to get us to chance you.
there are a few unique things – cake business, dad’s liver transplant – in your application, but the rest are ehhh.

Yea…I 100% agree with you. I only put the word “interesting” in so that people would look at the thread. It hasn’t worked…lol.

Your SATs are almost too low for success. You would be in the lowest quarter of Wharton acceptances by far. While your GPA is excellent, I don’t think that it would be enough.

Sorry, but good luck anyway. Anything is possible.

You should remember, muerteapablo, that SATs are far less important when applying as a transfer. If this candidate has proved that they can do the work in college–which they have, given their GPA–then I think they have as good a chance as anyone.

That makes me feel a bit better that they don’t put quite as much weight on SAT’s for transfers as the would normally.
