I love this report! Good to read the numbers in print!
One number they should have included was the average length of a contract.
^^^Yes, length of a contract is an important aspect. I think the fact that most contracts in this field are fairly brief (less than a year) is one of the key things that sets this field apart from other fields of work. No job is for a considerable length of time and so someone is basically job hunting on a regular basis.
Found this in my FB feed today - really interesting stuff. And we need more women on creative teams. @soozievt - I know your girl is holding up her end
@toowonderful…wow, that is an interesting look with data. And UGH…the percentage of female writers, choreographers and directors on Broadway is abysmal!
And yeah, with my D, her original musical that is in development backed by producers, is all about women, AND the entire creative team and producers are ALL women!
Also, another project she is working on, is a musical where the main leads are women and the story focuses on women a lot, and the creative team had been all male, but she was brought on as the lyricist and honestly, the story needs a female perspective.
Strides are being made but have a long way to go. :>
PS, come to think of it, the show my D opens in next week…she wrote the musical adaptation, all the songs and lyrics, but plays a role in the show…and her role is typically played by a male in this story and so it’s nice to see a male role given to a woman.
Ha @alwaysamom yeah, good call
Do you think there is a trend in light v heavy dancing within ensembles?
@beachymom From what I have been reading and hearing from people in NYC- it seems very dance heavy currently. People have complained that they aren’t hiring as many singer/actor types- more "dancer"dancers.
Thanks @stagedoormama I have one of those acting/singing primary kids, so I’m always curious about dance trends. The acting piece (film/tv/voice-over/commercial) will probably be very important for his future, although he sure does love the stage.
