I'm essentially applying to all Ivies and U. of Chicago and MIT (lol no shot).
I am applying with an intended major in Portuguese or Linguistics which I find to be not all that common. Will the fact that I am applying with a "unique" major in mind, with track record shown through EC's, awards, languages studied, help boost my chances?

Thank you to all who take the time to chance me and help a brother out. Bros 'fore Hos!

Bump 10char.

Although ivys are weird with there admissions sometimes, I’d say your accepted into atleast half of them. Chicago yes. And MIT probably

School’s really base application on intended major; they generally will instead look at what college within the University you intend on entering. That means that the Portuguese major, though obscure, is in the same pod as all the other humanities.

However, I don’t think you really need to be worrying about picking the right major to boost your chances of admissions. You seem to have a close to flawless resume, meaning that you will be a very, very competitive applicant to all the schools you listed.

I appreciate you guys taking the time. Best of luck to you all and thank you :)

Make sure you apply to a target/safety school.
Ivies are always toss ups so don’t get too overconfident if you hear people on CC tell you that you are a shoe-in, etc etc. Nonetheless, your resume looks great and I believe you have a good shot at all of the schools you are applying to. Congrats on your success so far and good luck!

Thanks parthenon. Yeah, I am applying to a few safeties like Boston University and Lehigh, I just didn’t bother to list them here. Thanks again for your advice :)

I believe you will have a great shot at most of those schools. Acceptance to maybe half, more or less. Looks good brah.

Thanks puggly.

As everyone else has said, you have great stats. Although admissions are unpredictable, you probably will get into at least 3 or 4 schools of those listed, though no offense I doubt MIT (but apply anyway).

I’m kinda of in the same boat major-wise since I want to study Classics (as in Latin and Greek), so hopefully that does help.

Good luck!!!

Thanks a lot Circular  !

Don’t worry your stats are phenomenal…if anything I say they will get you into any school. Letters of recommendation and essay will be the deciding factor in the most selective schools.
