so i was going through hte lovely UCSD point system as that is my main school. i have a 8200-8400 (depending on the system used) but i was curious about something:

on the UCSD application page it asks for awards, etc.
i have mentioned the AP awards.. and also the school awards i have received. now do they include this when calculating the points (im not too sure)
im just curious in how awards plays a factor in admissions :)

another small question:
so in my 9th and 10th grade i was volunteering about twice a week for a couple of hours. then in 11th grade i stopped because the place i was working at involved meat, and i am vegetarian. so i left and took up a job (which is still current)
i have volunteered for 400+ hours, well beyond what UC's require, but since i have not volunteered in the two years and instead have been holding up an important job as a housekeeper (funny, no?) and as a "new media relations adviser"--- i help out with maintaining facebook, twitter, website, all of that for the place i work at (the housekeeping one).
so my question is: does having this two year gap of no volunteering (which is replaced with a job) hurt me for UCSD chances?

i know a lot of people have said i will get in, but im wondering whether i should start volunteering again??
and like my first question: how does awards play a role in admissions :P

see this occurred back in 9th/10th grade, back when i was oblivious to the college world. i later realized at the end of my 11th grade that we need about 200 hours on our application…

besides like i said i volunteered twice a week for a couple of hours a day. & in a couple of months i was well beyond the minimum hours UC’s sought for, and then i passed what they wanted, and i still kept doing it.

"we don’t make it quite so obvious "
can you clarify further. i feel what i just have wrote may be a misunderstanding of what you have said.

I’m not sure why you’re asking us why you should keep volunteering. If it’s for the purposes of improving your application, it’s going to take place after you’ve already submitted. If it’s for your own personal satisfaction … why are you asking strangers?

i was just wondering if any one knew how the UC’s would react to only 2 years of volunteering, [ that too being in 9+10th grades] so yeah… i guess the me asking to volunteer was a bit lame haha.

Working is just as good as volunteering. Some people are needed to contribute to their family’s finances, and don’t have the free time to be volunteering.
