Interesting Situation

So, I applied to UCLA way back in November and didn't get in. Today, I got an email saying "thanks for applying to UC Irvine!" which is bizarre because I never actually applied..

I checked on my UC application, and apparently it was sent out to Merced and Riverside as well. I guess what happened is that LA recommended me to these other UCs without me knowing it, and they must have waived my app fee or something.

Has this happened to anyone else? And does anyone know when I can expect a response if I only got this email today?

I’m in the same situation except this isn’t the first UC campus that I haven’t applied to that has sent me an email regarding admissions. I’m guessing that the UC system automatically sends your application out to other schools. Not sure how they choose which school to send your application out to though. :/

Are you a CA resident? I think, back in the day, that if you had certain statistics, you were guaranteed admission for atleast one UC.

Haha no I live in New York

Happened to me as well. I live on the other side of the country and the only uc school I applied to was Berkeley(rejected) and today I found out that I got into Irvine!

Weird. never heard of this happening before. I know UC is attempting to increase out of state enrollment though.

I think that this link from UC Merced may help. They have a similar program.

Well, it makes sense that Merced would have such a program since their matriculation rate is so low. I’m not sure what this is, especially since it seems targeted at out of state students.
