This is interesting; not sure if anyone had more recent data, but this is for 2008 and earlier. Quite a disparity of admission rates to UVA based on something you have no control over, your race. Avg rate is ~35%; I wonder why are Native Americans have such a low rate, 15-20%; while blacks have such a high rate, >50% historically? That's quite a bias towards blacks. I don't even see why race is considered. Aren't we over that by now?

Funny how a decade or so ago, White-Americans would get in at higher rates than Hispanics. This, clearly, wasn’t called affirmative action for whites, it was the ~norm~ and how dare anyone question it.

haha it was the norm because white students outperformed, and continue to outperform Hispanic students. and btw, a decade ago affirmative action for URMs was at a high, I think what you are trying to get at is discrimination circa 1950

Hey OP has a right to his opinion - what do you mean how dare anyone question it. I don’t have an issue at all with the admit rates. URM’s tend to be hooked or given a slight advantage in the admissions process - but then again so do athletes, legacies as well as numerous others. Take every advantage you can to get into a great school. Apply as a male to a predomitely female school or vice versa - check out the female acceptance rates at Rose Hulman or Stevens. There are slight variations in advantages in admissions every year. I remember reading an article once where Vandebilt was actively trying to admit more jews.

So bottom line - OP’s comments are out of line - but admissions is admission.

You know, it depends on how you look at the data doesn’t it…did you notice that the acceptance rate for African Americans has been steadily inching toward the overall average through time. Does this not evidence a trend for exactly what you seem to want? Also, with respect to the low acceptance rate for native Americans, ever consider the possibility that Native Americans are more likely to hail from out of state?
