I'm an undergraduate student getting a degree in multidisciplinary studies. My three minors are professional writing, youth and family development, and communications. I'm really interested in writing and research and think that a career in academia would be the best possible outcome for me.

Of course, this would require a PhD and I've read that the job market for tenure-track professors isn't looking to great. So, my question is, what are my other career options with a PhD. I would prefer to still be doing some kind of research, but if this isn't possible, I just want to know what else I could do. I'm considering studying linguistics, english, or possibly anthropology. I really like the idea of researching the correlation between words (connotations mainly) and how they affect emotions. For example, do individuals recognize negative and positive connotations in languages they are unfamiliar with?

Anyways, my main question is, as stated above, what are my career options outside of academia with a PhD in anthropology, linguistics, or english?
