Interlochen Arts Academy- Comparative Arts Major/What should I major in?

I’m interested in attending the Interlochen Arts Academy for my senior year in 2016. I have two loves, cello and creative writing. I’m considering applying for the Comparative Arts major, but am still confused as to what the experience would be like, even after researching their website.

Would a past or current student be able to share their experience as a Comparative Arts major? How does the year-long cumulative project work?

In addition, would a general Interlochen past or current student/parent recommend only choosing one major? It would be between Music or Creative Writing. I consider myself naturally stronger in writing and feel as if I need to work harder at cello. However, I love both and plan to dual-major in English and Cello Performance in college. Thank you.

I’m a parent of an IAA graduate in music. Feel free to PM me.
The class day at IAA is 8am-6pm on blocks. Academics in the morning and after lunch is pretty much all your “major” requirements. So, in music this would include private lessons, small ensembles, large ensembles (band or orchestra or choir) and performances. It is a packed schedule. I’m not saying it can’t be done, but it would be tough to do 2 concentrations. Better to pick one and excel! From what I could tell the Comp Arts majors took heavier academic loads (more like traditional HS) and tried different things through out the year in the form of arts projects. If you do Creative Writing, you can ask about an audition for music lessons as a non-major. You probably won’t perform, but you will have world class instruction.
