Interlochen is an amazing place. Have you had experience with their summer program, or know someone who has? Three questions:

For an arts school, the broshure makes everything look so regimented, uptight, and strict. Is this the case?

The uniforms for summer…how does this detract from things, if at all?

How would free-spirited artists fair there?

I just graduated, but I've also spent 2 summers there.

oh it's not uptight at all, they have to be a little strict because there are so many people there (unless you're in the highschool division, they're not strict at all). compared to other summer camps I've been to and friends from school have been to all think that since the interlochen staff trust us, they do give us more freedom than at most normal places.

it seems annoying at first, but the uniforms make things a lot easier in the mornings. depending on what major you are, you hardly wear uniforms since you're in classes all day. and everyone finds ways to spruce them up.

i would say 99.9% of the people there are "free- spirited artists", so you would fit in wonderfully.

if you have any questions, feel free to pm me.

My daughter graduated from Interlochen and worked at the camp for two summers following her Interlochen graduation. I assure you that it is an amazing experience and the uniforms don't detract at all. There are a lot of campers, and their safety and whereabouts have to be monitored, so in that sense it is regimented, but as the above poster stated, artists are, by nature, very free spirited and this is not hampered.
