Interlochen Questions

Okay, so I'm currently a freshman and I learned about Interlochen not long ago. I've done my research and I would really like to go. I just have a few questions...

Financial Aid:

This first question is rather dumb but I still want to know...At Interlochen if you apply and get Financial Aid do you have to pay it back? Is it a loan or a gift? Like I said, dumb question but I think it's important.

General:

Are the students open minded and nice? Like, as a whole? I'm kinda quiet but once I get warmed up to you I can blab and blab!

If I major in Creative Writing, would I still be able to take a Theater Arts class or not?

On a scale of 1-10, 1 being preschool level and 10 being you have to be a genius, how hard are the core classes? I've read a lot but I still would like to know your thoughts.

Does a lot of bullying happen? Like I said, I'm quiet at first so I think I would be prone to bullying. Is it common or not?

Are the teachers super mean? Would they be able to help me out, one on one?

How many hours of sleep would I normally get if I went?

And lastly, how hard is it in general to get in? I plan to apply sooner rather than later, so I would like to know.

Thank you soo soo soo much!!

Financial Aid from Interlochen is a grant that is not required to be repaid. This is not a dumb question and is definitely important.

My extremely introverted daughter attends Interlochen and she is doing great. She finds it easier to talk to kids there because they share her passion and commitment to the arts.

You can talk to or email someone in admissions regarding taking a Theater Arts class. They are very helpful and will gladly answer that question.

The core classes would probably be around a 6 or 7. Academics are challenging but manageable for a good student.

While bullying might happen at Interlochen it would be very rare. Most kids who attend Interlochen pride themselves in not being cookie cutter kids. They truely value being different.

The teachers at Interlochen are generally outstanding. They tend to be very approachable and engaged. Classes are very small. It is uncommon to have more than 15 kids in a class.

I believe lights out is at 11:00 so if you got up at 7:00 you would get eight hours of sleep. It seems like seven or eight hours of sleep is realistic.

Good luck with your application! Interlochen is a wonderful school.
