Intern at Doctor Office

I'm a rising senior, and really wanted to do a summer program to gain experience and put on apps in the fall. I applied to and got into UCSB Mentorship, Cornell Summer Program(6 week health), and Discovery Internships. Scholarship deadlines were forever ago, and because of some recent job and economy problems I decided not to go. O the bright side I got an internship at a dotor's office that lets me work in the office, and go to the hospital and nursing home. It's 5 times a week and by the end of summer I'll have hundreds of hours.

I really am interested in medicine, and being able to be there firsthand instead of just taking classes sounds awesome. I was wondering, can Ieven put something like this on my college application? Will colleges look down on it because it isn't with an offical university or company?
thanks

Yes! Getting actual experience with a doctor is actually really good for collegeapps :)

It sounds like these are unpaid… so you can either count them as volunteer or possibly “internship” hours. Either one should definitely go on your college apps. I think colleges actually like to see students who are not going to programs that someone else planned and formulated for you. You might get some good essay material out of the summer, too.

it’s really great to here you both say that, and yes I do like the fact that I won’t be grouped with a thousand other kids and get a “recommendation” from someone who doesn’t really remember me. thanks!
