I`m gonna start econ at CAS UPenn this fall. I'm fairly interested about going into I-banking the first couple of years out of college. I was just wondering, will I have trouble getting a spot in I-banking considering that wharton students are heavily recruited?

PS. I'm thinking about trying for a double major with finance in wharton, but this would depend on me doing incredibly well my first year ( gpa +3.7 so I've heard).
Some of my friends asked me why I didn't apply to wharton (my GC though I had a good chance of getting in), I explained to them that I wanted to study purely economics and not business. ( I know wharton gives a bachelor in economic sciences, I think its called, but its basically business). Will I-banks understand my decision?

Wharton gives a Bachelors of Science in Economics, I think coming from High School you have a bad idea of what "business" is. The Wharton undergrad degree requires basic econ, and then you pick a "concentration" in the area you are interested in, most commonly finance. The CAS econ degree is more theoretical in nature whereas the finance concentration is the practical, applied stuff that is closer to what you actually use as an analyst. In either case, though, once you get to the IB job they will teach you a lot more than you learned in college, Wharton just prepares you a little better.
Given that you've already applied and been accepted to the college, though, you still have a good shot at an ibank job. The recruiters come because of Wharton, but they will still interview a number of college/engineering majors.

thanks for your help.. Yeah , I chose CAS mainly because I wanted that whole theoretical approach to econ ( my mom wnated me to do Wharton instead, but I told her I wanted pure econ)... in any case I'll try and see if I can get the whole double degree thing, even if it means working my butt off freshman year..
