Hey everyone, I'm fairly new to the site so I apologize if I'm posting this in the wrong place, but I was wondering if I could get your input/advice on trying to do an internal transfer into the University of Texas's McComb's school of business.

My situation is kind of weird. I just finished my Sophomore year at UT and I will be going into my Junior year, so the soonest I could try to transfer according to the University's rules is next June, when I will have finished my Junior year and be heading into my Senior year.

I read all of the rules about Internal transfers on the website and it seemed that I fit the criteria: I have fewer than 90 hours, and by the time I transfer I will have an estimated 75 hours, so I will still be under 90, and I had a plan for taking calculus and Macroeconomics (I already took micro) this year so I would meet all of the requirements by application time.

So I went ahead and saw an advisor in the Business school to ask about anything else I needed to do to prepare, and he told me that there's actually a new "4 long semester rule" at UT that states that students aren't technically allowed to transfer colleges after 4 long semesters (2 years) at the university, which basically counts me out. He said that if I could write him a compelling case as to why I deserve to be considered despite this rule and how I plan to graduate in four years, he would take it to the Dean and they would consider letting me apply.

The only thing is, I can't find anything online about the "Four Long Semester Rule" and there's nothing about it on the UT internal transfer website...just the 90 hour rule, which I meet. I'm going to write to him justifying my situation as best I can, and I'm trying to figure out a plan to graduate in four years, but it just seems like it will be impossible since I'll only have one year to get all of my necessary business credits in once I switch.

As far as my credentials go, I have a 3.9 and I'm currently in the Communications school. He basically told me that if the Dean approves it and I keep up my GPA I'll be basically in, but he said not to get my hopes up because they are normally very strict about the Four Long Semester Rule.

I'm really scared that they won't let me apply. Has anyone else ever been in this situation? Or have any information about it? Any advice would be very appreciated.
