Internal Transfer, now?

I was accepted to CIT, but feel like engineering is not my thing, and want to transfer to Tepper. How would I go about doing this? Is it even possible?

It's possible, but can be difficult to switch schools once you start at CMU. You should probably call the admissions office and talk to them about your issue. They might be able to refer you to someone in Tepper that can evaluate your application and tell you if you can be admitted now or what your chances would be if you were to attend CMU and then tried to transfer schools once you're attending.

whoa now. Tepper is a 2nd-year program. You can not be admitted to Tepper until after your first year. Being admitted to Tepper upon application to CMU means that Tepper "promises" to accept you your 2nd year at CMU. So, what you need to do is talk to the undergraduate dean of H&SS (where Tepper freshmen are placed) and transfer from CIT to H&SS. But you really need to talk to the CIT undergrad deans/advisers as well as the H&SS ones and the Tepper ones. The best time to do this would be in the summer, after you've confirmed that you're going to CMU and signed whatever paperwork is required, right around the time CIT requires you to pick classes. (Note for H&SS students: H&SS kids pick classes AFTER arriving at CMU, unless policy has changed, while some other colleges [CIT] have you pick classes before arrival.)

As a final note, I remember you were considering U Chicago. Tepper is business, not economics. Econ is under H&SS but it's sort of like "sponsored" by Tepper because Tepper has a good rep. Talk to H&SS advisers about the various econ majors.

so uh....is a transfer from IS to TSB relatively easy?

I can't speak for IS.

what about hss to tepper? what gpa should you maintain?

I'm a student in fine arts but would like to do BHA program my second year. Is it possible? With all the requirements for classes as a fine arts student, will I have enough time to take classes at Tepper?

cmonyuk is wrong: Here are some truths about transfers to Tepper which can all be found at the TEPPER website.

The earliest you can transfer is FRESHMAN YEAR SPRING SEMESTER and you must be taking or HAVE taken Multivariable Calc. Those that are accepted into Tepper are already placed in the school and are official Tepper students. If you look at Carnegie Mellon Directory, you can find plenty of freshman students whose school is the Tepper Business School.

Transfers after sophomore year are HIGHLY LIMITED

It does not matter as MUCH as where you TRANSFER FROM whether it be SCS or HSS as transfers usually depend on space and GPA as well as whether you can graduate in 4 years so taking business courses helps as the transition will be much easier in terms of graduating on time as well as fulfilling all your requirements as a Tepper student.

There is no "GPA to maintain" but about a 3.5 and above is a good start as it depends on space and availability.
