Has any student who transferred to UMD from another university or the community college got admitted to the Philip Merrill College of Journalism? I am concern about my chances in terms of being admitted. I had transferred from two different academic institutions before attending UMD (please do not judge me). I have finished most of entry requirements for the J-School as well as the Gen Ed requirement . The last course to take to gain entry to the J-School is JOUR 201, and I know it is one of my biggest challenges yet. I just want to follow my dream of being a multimedia journalist. I do not want to lose my dream and be a failure.

Transfer or Upper-Level Admission

"Transfer and upper-level students wishing to major in journalism must satisfy the Limited Enrollment Program (LEP) “gateway” criteria:

A grade of “C-” or higher in ENGL 101
Math 110 or higher
Completion of three distributive studies CORE or General Education requirements
A grade of “C-” or higher in JOUR 201. Demonstration of grammar skills competency (JOUR181) and completion of JOUR200 is a prerequisite for JOUR201.
Current grade point average 2.8 (includes transfer coursework)"

It is certainly possible for you to be accepted. You just need to make sure your credits from your previous institutions transfer before applying. If denied, you cannot reapply to an LEP so it is important to make sure you have all requirements met.

Yes, I have successfully passed JOUR 181 and 200. It is now just JOUR 201. And, I have high GPAs at the 2 institutions I had transferred from.
