Internal Transfer

so basically i just realized that i want to major in finance and statistics which r majors at stern..but while applying i didnt know wut i wanted to do so i applied and was accepted to CAS
i have talked to a few people and have gotten mixed answers...how hard is it to actually transfer...i have grades/scores/etc. that are definitely in par with stern
also..what courses should i take (at CAS freshman yr) that will be the best for transfering to stern
i would appreciate any feedback from any1..especially current students..
thanks

for cas freshman year try to get most of the foundations done and over with. this would be wte, conv west, world cultures, calc 1, and natural science. the microeconomics taught in stern is equivalent to the intermediate microeconomics taught in cas so try to work up to that if possible. not sure if you can take this course but take advanced college essay: business and its publics as well since it is the equivalent to business and its publics: inquiry and discourse. these courses will basically fill up your freshman year and it is the same courses that a stern freshman would take minus statistics. but statistics is a class that can be left for sophomore year.

so your first semester will be something like wte, calc1, conv.west or world cultures, and maybe the pre-requisite for interm micro.

i believe that internal transfer stresses your gpa at nyu the most. the safe number seems to be 3.7 or above. i have a friend who internally transferred into stern from cas and she had like a 3.9, which probably is overkill. but yeah, higher the better!

@Seoul

you're talking about microeconomics in Stern for the second semester. The first semester is much easier, but again one has to watch out for the curve.

i'm pretty sure transfers can opt out of taking the second writing class, so I don't think ng23z needs to take advanced college essay. Advanced college essay is just like WTE, so taking it might be a waste of time.

i really don't think there is a safe number. I've heard that students with 4.0s get rejected. i know this kid that had a really high gpa freshmen year and got rejected for sophomore transfer, then pulled a 4.0 mostly in cas equivalent business classes and then got accepted for junior transfer.

@ng23z
I would advise taking as many business classes as you can. Taking business classes shows that you really want to do business. You get to finish up business prereqs, and there's a plus since the curve-I think there's a curve for all business classes-would put you against CAS/other kids rather than Stern kids.

personally, I think that you can get into any of Stern's programs if you just seem motivated. so business classes, high gpa, business internship, .etc

thanks for the info..also i dont know if this changes the advice..but im pretty sure that ill be placing out of a bunch of things with 5's in AP calc BC, macro + micro econ, and statistics...umm my hs gpa is a 3.9ish so hopefully thats a plus...also do you guys think i should take calc 2..or place out and take the next level course? once again..thanks
