Internal Trasfer into Stern

Hello, I am currently a freshman at NYU CAS. I applied for CAS as a senior last year thinking that I would major in one of their majors, but now I am starting to gain an interest for business. I am interested in applying for internal transfer to Stern but I do not know what I have to do or what I need to do.

1) Does NYU allow current CAS students to transfer into Stern? If so, are there certain classes I need to take or fulfill to be considered? Right now, I am taking all MAP courses.

2) If I do transfer to Stern, will I lose my scholarship money? NYU provided me a $20k scholarship but will I lose all/some of it because I am a "transfer" student (most transfer students are known to receive very little aid)?

Yes, it’s possible for you to transfer to Stern internally, but your chances will probably be quite low. The transfer rate is much lower than the incoming freshman admission rate. There were quite a few transfers this year though, I believe around 80 sophomores and 30 juniors. If you’re set on applying, you’ll probably want to do a bit of research into the typical courses that Stern freshmen take, as completing most of those would give you a better chance of transferring, and if you do successfully transfer, you wouldn’t fall too far behind. Be sure to take note that Stern has slightly different MAP requirements than CAS and has its own separate statistics and microeconomics courses. Also, it’s best not to wait too late to apply, as it’s much more difficult to transfer as a junior than as a sophomore.

You should probably contact the office of financial aid about the scholarship.
