International Acceptance rate & ED

hello everyone,I am just wondering what is the acceptance rate for international students? Does ED help raise the chance in getting in Brown?Thank you !!

ED isn’t going to raise your chances of getting in, international student or not.

Overall 437 acceptances and more than 5500 applicants.
Source: Class of 2015 welcome page.

International Acceptance Rate: 7.9%
Overall Acceptance Rate: 8.7%

It’s a little harder to be admitted as an international but maybe not a whole lot harder.

Yeah Brown’s admission rate is terribly low!
Well, may I know if Brown puts more emphasis on grades or on characters.
I mean…is it more like Harvard, which accept students with low scores but outstanding characters or skills?

Neither Harvard, not Brown really accept students with “low scores”, but they both look for other factors beyond just “scores”. See other threads here with lots of international admit info. International admissions are not needs blind. (ie there is a financial consideration. But they do give some aide to appropriate foreign students.)
Just as there are considerations for US “special applicants” such as underrepresented minorities, first generation going to college, there is some of the same “advantage” to foreign students from areas that Brown has underrepresented. Ie a Brazilian student has a greater chance than an Indian student if all else was equal. (but no 2 students are really equal!? ).

Harvard does not accept people with really low scores! That’s insane. Brown doesn’t accept really low schools either. You don’t have to have extremely high scores to be accepted, it seems as if they go by the essays and personality for admission.

If by “low” you mean 1900 SAT (which isn’t exactly low), then yes, that’s true. If by low, you mean 1500 SAT, you’ll be hard-pressed to find many (any?) students in that range.

But Brown cares much more about fit and other things than just scores, and fit is as important as demonstrating you can do the work.

By low score I mean average and above average score.I got 2380 for SAT1 (superscore) but my high school results are just above average and there are fluctuations(sometimes top 5% but lowest can be bottom 30%-40%).
It seems to me that many other Ivies,eg Princeton Columbia and UPenn, have very high requirement for academic results and such grades do not really give me an edge.I just wonder if Brown is as stringent with the grades as others or as long as the grades pass a threshold, everyone stands similar chance…
Thanks for helping!!

Well, “low” is relative… I can’t really speak for Brown because as far as we know, none of us are on the admissions committee. However, after talking to many people at Brown (in person that is), I’ve got the feeling that they look beyond academics. If you’re GPA was affected by anything give an explanation so they know the circumstances. In all honesty, we all have the same chance of getting in, so don’t freak out. They always emphasize the essays. It’s always the deciding factor. On my visit, they said that they rejected a lot of people because they couldn’t see who they were through the application. So, I’m just keeping that in mind when I fill out the supplement. Luckily, this year the supplement is more personal!
