Has any international student heard anything yet? Please post here when you do.

How do we get the decision anyway?? email or snail mail??

On the application received letter, it is stated that they will e-mail us our decisions by April 1st. Also, I saw on last year’s thread that decisions were posted on-line. However, I am not sure whether accepted students get their letters via regular mail or express mail. I think express mail. Rejected and wait-listed candidates receive their letters by snail mail, of course.

yeah, my guess from looking at last year’s posts is that we will get emailed early next week :S
and at the very latest it will be posted April 1 online

what? Decisions are posted online?

if you look at last year’s posts, it sounds like on April 1 everyone’s webadvisor is updated with their decision…but that was last year, so I don’t know

By the way, it anyone’s ‘as of’ date in the admission status change recently? Mine changed on the 18th of March. And it is still as of March 18, 2009.

yes- mine says March 20, 2009.

yeah I was wondering the same thing, mine says Mar 5

hold on just had a brainwave…I’m going to post this in the domestic RD thread to see if those accepted had dates changing

The worst rejection e-mail I have gotten so far. It’s like “Ya ya we know you worked hard on the app, but we cannot ‘help’ everyone as impoverished as you cuz we got limited funds…and we wont even waste postal money on your decision…so this email is all you get!” Sighs

^^^^^
You got that from Whitman?

no.LOL. This is the actual one…THEY DID NOT EVEN BOTHER TO PLACE SPACES BETWEEN PARAGRAPHS!!

Dear BB012,
After a careful review of your credentials submitted in application for admission to Whitman, including the Financial Aid Application, I am writing to let you know that we are unable to offer you admission for this fall. Please note, we are sending this notification only by email, not by regular mail.
I realize that you put much thought and effort into preparing your application and that you might be disappointed. However, we had many outstanding international student applicants this year and our scholarship funds were limited.
Again, thank you for your interest in Whitman and I am sorry we could not help you. Best wishes for success in achieving your educational goals.
Cordially yours,
YYYYY

I have posted it as it was. What I also did not like was the use of the word ‘help,’ I didn’t ask for help! I applied for admission through the standard process.

@ Bb012, that rather annoyed me as well. Strange, but my rejection letter does have spaces between paragraphs :)

Well… the Whitman rejection kind of hurt the most. I really put a lot of energy in writing those essays… :(

So did I :(

hey guys, I also got the email…it was annoying, I had been so impressed with the individual attention of Whitman’s admissions office, and then this seemed…less than classy

I agree this might have been better worded…But I think the intent was not to suggest that you needed help–but that they are regretful they did not have access to more financial aid to help international students come to Whitman.

Many, many colleges have taken such a hit on their endowments in the current downturn that they are having to cut valued programs of many kinds, including aid to international students (and domestic students).

I am quite certain that many schools have been unable to admit students they would otherwise very much like to have, because they know that they cannot offer the aid to make it possible to come.

Maybe this year, they only accept kids who don’t need FA. Maybe they suffered great loss this year. But what kind of people turn away students only through three-paragraph e-mail? No respect at all!
