International Aid: yay or no way?

Hi everyone,

Does anybody currently at UVA know any internationals (or maybe is an intl) who has received some form of aid from the Univ? The financial aid website categorically refuses aid, but there must be some non-US person who got in with aid, right? (looking around hopefully!)

Thanks!

You may find some third party scholarships that provide assistance. Check out the international students section of this website.

Another option is to attend college in your home country for a couple years and then try to transfer to UVa, if that is affordable. If you are not a native English speaker, those 2 years can also be useful to become more fluent in English and to get classes out of the way that may be harder to take in English than in your native language.

Or, you could try to attend UVa for grad school. UVa currently has much lower out of state tuition for grad students than undergrads. Also, as a grad student, there are more opportunities to earn money for academically-related work.

not any institutional means. This is why the Global Student Council and (previously) those at the International Studies Office campaigned so hard to establish international financial aid.

However with the election of the inward-looking McDonnell to the governorship in 2010 and the replacement of Dean Muth, this goal has only become harder.

Sigh…

Sometimes I do wish for third culture kindred spirits who weren’t so dreadfully spoilt!

How about private loans?
