International Aid

I am confused:

Decisions about financial aid for newly entering international undergraduates are made at the time of admission and are not changed for the duration of the undergraduate program. Cornell has a limited amount of funding available for international undergraduates, only 10 - 15 scholarships are awarded to students in each entering class. The scholarships are either partial or full, based on the selected student's need. It is not possible to apply for financial aid from Cornell after enrollment.

There is a difference between scholarships/grants/free money and financial aid (which includes loans).

Ah, I see.

hold on...does that mean that out of the 60 intels receiving aid per year, around 45-50 receive only loans (and maybe work-study)? :-S

absolutely yes...
infact when its come to int'l aid...most US universities are pretty stingy. Cornell for instance says no aid to ED int'ls...which is pretty stupid because some int'l may really badly want to go to Cornell.
if uve read the UPEnn prospectus u'll understand soon that they discourage all int'l from applying for aid.
in my personal opinion, only Princeton, and HY Mit to a certain extent, are liberal when it comes to int'l aid.

but if for example there is no way that you can even pay 5000$... what will they do then?

unless ur really brainy...show tremendous promise...
ask u to go to another college

but they say the have "need-blind" policies...!!

need-blind- ur decision's irrespective of ur need

actually meetin ur need- a whole different issue

so why would they offer me admission if they can't give me any financial aid and if my financial status is a disaster?

bec they believe u would be mad enough to somehow manage loans (remember they think ur real good...thats why they gave u admission despite u not bein able to meet the finances)...they don't wanna lose u...but can't pay for u

its a smart policy actually...bec some people actually fogo everythin to do it.... so cornell gets the talent and still saves $200000 (4yrs)

bastards... ! but what for example if i'm an athlete and they really want me.. would they give me a substantial amount of aid then?

yes...most ivies like takin athletes... if u have some very good accomplishments in athletics... u most probably will get aid

i'm no world class athlete but cornell is weak in my event.. so i guess they need me..

ur event being???

yeah...if thast the case and u have decent credentials...u could start paintin the town red now itself :D

ha ha... good one.. my event is javelin throw..

First of all, never trust collegeboard on anything. Secondly . . . the amount listed on the collegeboard site might include Canadians/Mexicans, who are intels but are given need blind consideration and have full need met.

Cornell is not need-blind w/ regards to international applicants.

Only with Canadians and Mexicans

whats the idea behind being nice to candadians/ mexicans and treatin the rest of the world like scum??? do mexicans even apply???
