International and domestic friends..

I'm currently a freshman at UM and I moved into my dorms about a week ago. The thing is, almost all of my friends are fellow internationals and I don't really hang out or hit the fraternities with any domestic people.

Did any other internationals here make a lot of friends with domestics once classes started (and partied/chilled with them) or vice versa?

no, internationals(chinese, korean etc) often stick to their own group and speak their own native languages. Very few actually take the initiative to make domestic friends.

I’m a westernized one without an accent and with English as a first language. If a domestic were to talk to me, he would think that I’m an American-Asian, up until the point when he asks where I’m from.

Yeah, my roommate is international but doesn’t have a heavy accent or anything. We’re good friends and he has a group of friends that are also asian, but not international.

Some international groups are super cliquey though. For example, the only reason I got to play pick up soccer with this group of Koreans was because my roommate is Korean and he got our foot in the door.

Hi !

I am an international too, from Morocco, and I have to say it is hard to make friends when all american students already know each other or just do not takethe time to knowinternationals ! Moreover I am in a single room an I have no group to stick to since I am from a underrepresented minority ! I just dont know what to do  Its getting kind of boring there !
