How hard? What are the chances? The rate of admission? Thanks

'm not really sure about this. But if 'm not wrong, amherst DOES NOT provide financial aid to internationals. Go check their site to comfirm though.

You're actually very wrong. Amherst pledges to meet 100% aid to EVERYONE, and internationals will be included in the "no loans" policy and receive all grants, too. Don't spread this ****.

jhl, it's impossible to tell without more info (how much you need, where you're from, your resume...) I think admissions will be need blind next year, though.

I'll need almost a full ride.. 45k? I'm from Brunei, applying to the class of 2012..

My SAT: 700CR 780M 680W, doing 4 A levels (3 Sciences, Math, predicted all As, not sure if I could get all 4 As tho).. I did only 8 O levels (7As, 1B on combined sittings).. My ECs are not stellar.. but fine.. Chairperson of Environmental Club- did stuffs with a bank, high comm.. Some national academic awards which put me in the top 1 %, as well as winning national computing competition..top in the world in O Level Math 2005 (wrote the best paper)..internships (very short ones) at a local hospital, a department of the Prime Minister's office.. did a short research experience at a local uni.. this is very brief.. hopefully it can give you some idea..

I think you have a wonderful chance, especially being from Brunei. And they do give lots of $. However, that said, your essays will need to be wonderful. They really want to know about YOU. WHO you are. Continue the good work, really proof and edit those essays, and Good Luck!

As a country Brunei is pretty rich but I am in fact poor..I mean would they still gimme aid??

I mean would they gimme this amount of aid..

anyone else who could predict my chances?

How rich your country is does not have anything to do with how much aid you would get. If accepted, they will meet 100% of your demonstrated need, whatever they calculate that to be.

I don't thiiiiink we currently have students from Brunei, so that may work in your favor. I think your shots seem pretty good, but it's impossible to tell. If they accept you, they will meet 100% aid.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed.. the viewbook says they accept only 25 students on full aid each year..

is there any Portuguese at Amherst though? cos' i have a frd who's half portuguese and half chinese and he's interested in applying as freshman this year...

However, international applying for aid has less chance of getting in. I hear only a fraction of international applicants receive aid. Amherst is not need-blind.

I know quite a few international applicants receiving aid, actually - a few with near full rides. I think Amherst will be need blind for internationals within a year.

If your prediction is true, that's fantastic news. I am also international and was worried that my selections(liberal arts and need-blind to itnl apps) are only two. I just wish that they'll switch in time.

^Not likely at all. If you apply this year, it is IMPOSSIBLE

Impossible??

I mean NOT SO SOON.. Impossible this year since they say they're not need blind. they won't go need blind MIDWAY through the application season

If you mean 2007, of course. I'm applying 2008. But even that I think would be highly unlikely.

Oh.. I didn't know you were applying this next year
