Hello everyone!
I am an International undergraduate engineering applicant from India. I have taken the SAT only once, i.e. May 4, 2013. My Scores are:
Critical Reading 590
Math 780
Writing 600
(the lesser English scores are thanks to my origin)
My parent's combined annual income is 10,000 $ only and they will not be able to pay the sticker price.
So i wished to know if i will get any type of financial aid or not.
If yes, what will be the approximate cost of attending 4 years at the institution?
Moreover, My uncle is a green card holder. Will that help in getting a loan?
Waiting eagerly for your reply.
Thank you

Hey Anand, are you an 18er or 19er?
Regarding your question,
Yes, a lot of colleges in the US give aid to international students, There is no specific amount of aid, it varies from school to school, you can get full rides or a part of the cost, there are schools that do meet the full need demostrated by the student.
Also you’ll have to increase your SAT scores if you want to increase your chances of getting some form of aid, the score you have here is no good for an aid package.

Here is a tentative list of colleges that give aid to internationals like us.

Yes! You are eligible for loans if your uncle co-signs the loan agreement with you, that is, your uncle will have to pay it back in case you can’t.

Thanksssssssssss a lot!
And i am 18.33334 years old :P

^He meant whether you applying for Class of 2018 (graduating from next year) or Class of 2019

Also you need to decide which colleges will you apply to then only people can help you about financial aid question

and one thing SAT scores are just not everything for college admissions, you need to give more details on ECs , School Grades etc

oh! Sorry. ya m an 18er.
Actually its the other way round. I’ll decide the colleges after going thru the price.
CBSE 12th 91 %
and i play nice badminton, can dance, was NCC corporal.

You are a gap year applicant?

yup. Didn’t knw anythng about SAT before feb 2013.! Thats the problem with India… Lack of awareness.

Well, in that case i would advise you to work real hard, yeah! Like real, real hard on your application.

First of give me an insight of your ECs, what you have, what can you achieve in the 4-6 months you have.
See, the chances of gap year applicants are quite less than normal. So, i would advise you to work on your SATs a little more.

As a gap year applicant, it is very important for you to justify your decision of taking an year off. Don’t just sit with standardized tests and applications. Do something meaningful. Pursue your interests. Show the adcoms that you made your extra year count.

You should definitely take those SAT scores up. SAT Math is fine but the other two sections aren’t. Most colleges do not consider SAT Writing score for admission but that doesn’t mean a low score can escape their eyes.

Also, I advise you to compile a good list of colleges. Don’t just make a list of all the top ones. Make right and reasonable decisions!

We may be able to guess some outcomes if you give us more information about your activities, grades, achievements, etc.

Good Luck! :)
