I filled up the CSS and sent it to all the colleges I am applying to ( I mean only the ones I have asked for aid, not to, for example the UC’s). I just wanted to know if there is something else that I have to do. I have no firsthand information, so it would be great if anybody could help me out. IS THE ANYTHING APART FROM THE CSS FORMS THAT THE INTERNATIONALS HAVE TO SUBMIT FOR FINANCIAL AID?
How would we know? We have no idea where you applied to college.
You need to check each college website for what THEY want in terms of financial aid application materials for international students. Then send them what they want. It will likely vary by school.
And do NOT miss any deadines.
@thumper1 My colleges are:
1)Stanford
2) UT Austin
3)UCLA
4)UIUC
5)Cornell
6) Caltech
7)Dartmouth
8)Brown
9)Georgia Tech
10)Purdue
11)Harvard
12)Swarthmore
13) UMich
I am applying for aid only at the ons that offer aid for internationals. Does each school have different requirements? I mean I checked for Cornell and Harvard so they just seemed to watn the CSS form. I have missed one Caltech deadline already though. As for the remaining I still have time.
How would you pay for umich , GT, UTexas, Purdue, UIUC, or the UCs???
Each college and university sets its own policy about this. You really do need to contact each of them, and ask.
@mom2collegekids My parents can afford 45k a year…For the remaining amount I would have to take up a loan in my country…So, UT Austin, Purdue and UIUC would not be a problem, UCs might pose a financial barrier, but my parents will assist me in paying back the loan if I can’t do so myself…However it would be much, much easierfor both me and my parents if I could get some scholarship, even if its for half the amount.
@happymomof1 Ok…I am checking on each college’s site…Thanks for the advice.
…hoping for a scholarship, “even if it’s for half the amount” and your parents can pay 45k per year?!!
Did you check if the schools you applied to give merit aid, or only need based aid?
@Madison85 they can afford 45k with heavy financial constraints,it would be half of their annual salary. But we live in a backward part of India, so they can manage with 45k per annum, but it would be a huge load on them…Combined annual income is between 85-90k, so think I qualify for need-based aid…As compared to that if I need to pay 30k per annum, it would be relatively easier and I could save up some money for my masters too.
Ok, I see. Thanks for the explanation.

Stanford, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard do not give merit aid. And they also only accept less than 10% of all applicants. If you are from India, your application will be reviewed along with all of the other applicants from India…and there are plenty of them…plenty. And many well qualified. Your first hurdle will be to get accepted.
At UCLA, you will be expected to pay the differential between in and out of state rates which is $23,000 PLUS your family EFC which will be in the $25k to $30k range PLUS a student contribution. I do not think you will be getting aid from UCLA.
University of Michigan…not much need based aid, if any, for international students.
ETA…Purdue, UIUC, Georgia Tech, UT Austin, UCLA do not guarantee to meet full need for all students.
But really…you need to check EACH college website for their financial aid application requirements and the deadlones for submission of everything they request. Check EACH college…not just one or two. The requirements WILL vary. And you may find that there are schools on your list that don’t give need based financial aid to international students,…at all…or give limited aid to international students.
Another thing to consider…at some of these schools (actually most on your list) the schools are need aware for admissions. This means that your ability to pay will be considered when your admissions application is reviewed.
@thumper1 I knew all that, been active on this site for 4 months and all that…And I know that my chances are extremely low…though here are my stats if you want to see them, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1725426-my-last-chance-thread-please-give-your-opinions-p1.html …
No all the private schools on my list give need based financial aid to international students, though some are not need-blind as such…I believe I have a great shot at Purdue, UCLA (international acceptance rate-30%), and UT Austin…about the others I am not sure
purdue and Michigan do not offer need based aid to international students.
How will you fund theses schools?
How will you pay $23,000 plus your EFC plus your student contribution for UCLA…total about $50,000. Can you do that?
Your issue is not acceptance. Your issue is paying for the schools.
@thumper1 My parents can fund them as I explained in an earlier post…At worst I would end up with a 60k student loan, which my parents would help me pay back, if I face any problems…my parents can pay about 45k a year
<<<<how will="" you="" pay="" $23,000="" plus="" your="" efc="" student="" contribution="" for="" ucla…total="" about="" $50,000.="" can="" do="" that?="">>>>
that’s the calculation for Oos domestics…int’ls just pay all.
Well…Mom2…$50,000 a year IS all!
