How does an international student-athletes go about getting recruited?
My niece is a top age-group "football" player in her country and a top student at her small school. How can she get in touch with coaches in the US? She hopes to go to school like Williams or Bowdin-- a school that doesn't give athletic scholarships but where coaches have pull in admissions and academics are the main thing.

Do you mean football or soccer?

Regardless, I’d start by emailing the coach to express interest. Small college coaches seem to be very receptive to student inquiries. Preferably your niece would be able to go visit the colleges and meet with the coaches in person. If visiting is not an option, the coach might be willing to assess your niece’s athletic potential remotely. It might help to make a short video of your niece playing and doing drills.

as b@r!um said, she needs to contact coaches at many colleges as soon as possible during her junior year. Go to the “Athletics” page for each college and fill out the “prospective recruit” form. Be prepared to have her stats, awards, etc. She also needs to have someone make a video (10mn max) showing what she’s able to do - this will require taping all her games for a while in addition to her best drills. Finally, she needs to register and take the SAT or ACT as soon as possible to show that she’s academically eligible.

Thanks for your help, that all make sense. I guess with computers and video everything is different than when I was that age.
