For privacy sake, how much does winning an international award affect your chances towards admission to an Ivy League institution?
What kind of award? A Nobel Peace Prize or an Olympic medal will likely go a lot further than a math award.
Likely (assuming the award in question is not a huge international honor) it will be a nice addition to an application but won’t get you in.
Lol no it’s not a Nobel Peace Prize or Olympic medal award. It’s from a UN documentary thing.
If the reward is for something that’s not attained easily, then heck yeah it’s impressive. But make sure that the award shows your strengths in an area you want to study. Having the best poetry certainly won’t help you if you plan to major in a STEM oriented field.
@afamelas I disagree. Having a poetry award, even when you’re going for STEM, will help. Most US schools are liberal arts, so they will value the humanities.
I plan on studying molecular biology (or biochemistry, or neuroscience) at a BS level and combining it with a double major (or minor, depending on how i can manage my time) in political science or econ lol
@Woandering I wasn’t referencing that literally, most awards will work in your favor. I was just stating that the most impressive awards are those that are in line with your intended field.
