International Baccalaureate student planning to pursue Architecture at Cornell.

Hello everyone!

I'm a current Grade 12 IBDP student and I plan on majoring in Architecture for UG.

US schools are my top priority so far and getting admitted into Cornell is a dream I've been having for quite a while now.
I know that dreams don't come true unless you put in the best efforts so I took up IBDP, one of the most rigorous high school programs in the world.
Initially I took up Math, Physics and English as my HLs but after one year of a roller coaster ride in IB I realized Math HL is not my piece of cake. So I dropped Math to SL and took up Business and Management at HL. I know I've jeopardized my chances of getting into an Ivy League by that one move, but I was afraid I'd end up with a lower overall IB score if I continued in Math HL. So now, I'm building a really strong portfolio by trying to portray my creativity across as many mediums as possible, sketching is my most comfortable forte though. I'm also all geared up for a summer internship at a local architecture firm and my SAT score is 2200. I'm yet to take the subject SATs but I'm hoping for a 700 in Math II. In order to make up for not having Math HL I'm planning on taking AP Calculus AB, hoping it would satisfy more Calculus requirements. I also have a lot of ECs, I have held important positions in the Student Body of my school ever since my Freshman year. I also head a literature club at school, and run a small NGO with my close friends along with taking part in events conducted by other NGOs. As a part of CAS, I took part in a wide range of adventure activities, creative and CS activities.

OK, sorry for beating around the bush for so long but I'm a natural storyteller and I thought giving the background knowledge would help you guys answer my very important question. I'm sure it's kind of common around here but, do I have chances of attending an Ivy League or top ranked Architecture schools in the US with the above profile? I come from a middle class family and I believe I always made the best use of opportunities that came my way. If I get into a good university, I would be the first person from my family to go abroad for Undergrad. My parents cannot completely afford my tuition but they'll give their best and I can take student loans and hope for grants/scholarships from the schools that I manage to get into. So considering my financial dependence, academic profile and extra curricular activities, do I really stand a chance?

Oh btw, my grades weren't as good as they should have been in Year 1 but they've gotten better by the end of it and I'm going to work my butt off this year and I'm aiming for a predicted grade anywhere between 38-41.

If any of you have any suggestions for me to make my application stronger, that would be lovely! I'm going to work on getting a better SAT and SAT subject test scores.

SO YEAH, please post your opinions, suggestions, constructive criticism about my chances of getting into a good school in the US with a decent scholarship!! (:

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING ALL OF THIS. I REALLY APPRECIATE IT. Talking for too long has become a problem :P I need to work on reducing my rants a bit.

Good day xx

US Loans and grants aren’t given to international students. Scholarships are hard to get unless you have perfect scores and even these are not guaranteed. If you need scholarships, this will lessen your chances of getting into US universities because most schools are “need-aware”. Architecture school admissions are tough in the US.
