A Japanese university I am interested in will open up a International High School during fall 2011. Of course, I am very interested and wouldn't hesitate to go. Language and finances won't be a problem. Despite my enthusiasm to go, I'm pretty sure my parents would say "no" very quickly.

My current high school is just okay. It's not easy, but not very challenging either. I find that I am bored most of the time. My friends are either Junior or Seniors (I am a Sophomore), meaning that once they leave I won't have any friends.

My dream job is a screenwriter/director in Japan. Even if I can not become a screenwriter or director, I would still want to live in Japan. I believe whole-heartedly that Japan is a constant in my future.

I am eager to go as soon as possible, but I also realize that the sooner I leave (whether next year or college), the sooner I will not call my current home "home". If I leave next year, then I'll only see my parents and family a few times a year for the rest of my life. I think I am okay with that, but I doubt my parents are.

Any advice?

I would love to go, but how could I convince my parents?

I guess once you go to boarding school in general you won’t be seeing much of your family any longer, even if it’s a boarding school in the US as long as it’s some states away. That was an issue I was troubled about when I was deciding if I wanted to start applying to boarding school too.

You should probably ask for some information, like maybe a catalog from the school and just talk it through with your parents, tell them why you want to go, how it’ll help you in the future, things like that.

^^
I want to attend a Japanese university, and that is one of a few with an English curriculum. My parents are overprotective, and I’m sure most parents don’t want their “baby” to leave.

^True. I attend a private school at the moment. My parents didn’t want me to attend a boarding school in the US (my current country) when I was applying to high schools in 8th grade. Ahh… That sounds like a good idea.

I’ve been thinking “enjoy these last few years at home” because I’ve always known that after high school, I won’t be home often (once every other year…?). I really want to go to this international high school, but that really speeds up my thinking to “enjoy these last few months”. :/
