The only California school which offers a degree in international business with a TRUE international emphasis is Cal Maritime, a highly specialized Cal State. Unless you want to get into the shipping industry, I wouldn’t recommend the school (if you want to get into cargo shipping, it and USMMA are the best schools in the nation for the field).

Other California schools that offer the major are Dominican University, Menlo College, Pepperdine, San Diego State, San Francisco State, San Jose State (concentration only), University of San Francisco

Note that none of these schools, except for perhaps Pepperdine, San Diego State, and possibly USF are good. SFSU and SJSU are both commuter schools with serious budget issues, and the others are basically unknown.

I know nothing about international business but it seems more prudent to get a practical degree business degree and couple it with a minor in a foreign language with a semester abroad to learn more about the culture as well as develop fluency in the language.

Take a look at San Diego State. My S is in the business school there (Accounting) but had several friends studying International Business. They all seem to be very happy with their professors and the education they’re getting. Also, SDSU has a very good study abroad program with many options for a semester or even a summer course of study in another country. Actually may be required for International Business. Check the website and Facebook pages and you will probably find more info. Good Luck!
