^^Fleagle you are responding to OP of thread which is 2 years old. I think the real question is in the two more recent posts!

Nikk - IB is a program where you are formally admitted to program after completing a number of hours (check web). The only guaranteed students are honors and maybe capstone - there are requirements to be met for both though. You can do a little research on website.

Also, I’ve seen study-abroad mentioned several times. Even if you’re not IB, there are a LOT of GREAT study abroad options. They aren’t just limited to International Business majors, either. I’m going to Paris next year to literally study at one of the best universities in the world. (They have exchange agreements with Harvard and a dual-degree agreement with Columbia, if that tells you anything.)

@scmom12 thanks so much for the info! So do students basically get admitted into the business school and then once you fufill those hours, you are automatically admitted into the IB program, or do they limit the amount of students they let in? I just dont want to go to USC if theres a good chance I might not get into the IB program! Ahh thanks so much!

I don’t know specifics. I think you need to call someone if website doesn’t answer your questions. NC7777 is capstone and IB and might answer your questions. Search this forum for international business and maybe PM him/her. Or search for thread IB program ranking.

They’re changing it every year. For my class of 2016, anyone who was a capstone or honors college student who listed IB was pre admitted as long as they meet the class requirements and held a 3.5

What I heard from David Deweil (Vice Principal of Capstone) is that the class of 2017 Capstone Scholars will have to keep a 3.8 gpa to keep their pre admittance for IB.

They do limit the amount of International Business students. Traditionally it’s around 200 per year. It is extremely comparative to get into if you are not Capstone or Honors, but I have heard of students who have gotten in.

A 4.4 gpa with a 29/30 should get you into Capstone easy enough! Great program. But the IB admittance thing changes every year, but at South Carolina, a 3.8 is very easy to obtain if you can prioritize your time well. Hope this helps!

You should be right in line. I had a 4.4 and 1310 Sat. As long as you apply before December first, you will be automatically considered for Capstone scholars.

I would recommend applying for the honors college as well. That is another strong program and they offer some good scholarships through that application.

Have people from the IB program gone into strategic consulting at a MBB firm? I know the IB program is very good, but the it is difficult to get into the MBB firms without coming from a “target school” so I’m curious about how the IB program prepares students to stack up against some of the most prestigious business schools out there.

We received my son’s acceptance letter to be in the Gamecock IB program over the weekend. In that document, it shows that 3.6GPA is required through 45 hours (someone on here stated it might be 3.8 so I wanted to let others know). Now, we have to dig around to see what scholarships we can put together. He had already received another acceptance from the left coast that included about $9K in academic scholarship $'s (essentially waving out of state fees) but we would like to have him close at home and the IB program here was my pick so I am a bit biased.

I hope your son applied to the honors program as well as it sounds as if he would meet their criteria. In several places on the USC website there is a chart showing probability of receiving a merit scholarship. If your son has a 26+ ACT or 1200+ SAT look for it. Obviously, scholarship awards will depend of the acceptance pool, so the higher scores the better. Most scholarships awarded to OOS students come with an additional bonus reduction in tuition to in-state rates (which almost always is worth more than the scholarship itself).

Yep, the waiver of the out of state is the PRIMARY reason for seeking a scholarship. His ACT was 29 & his SAT was 1330 (or 1920 if you consider all three) so we are hoping that will help us there. I know that we DID get a letter saying that he had not been selected for the McNair program but that he would be considered for other scholarships so we are in the “waiting” mode on USC right now.

How does consideration for the international business program work? I applied too late to get into the honors college (and my application will only be “considered if space is available” to the university as a whole. South Carolina would only be a reasonable consideration for me if I get into the International Business program.

You could potentially still get into the Capstone program. At least some Capstone admits have automatic admission into International Business. Otherwise, all normal students are conditional admits for the IB program. They have to reapply for the international business program during their sophomore year. I believe it’s mostly based on grades received in USC classes.
