i expect very good recs from teachers, but I'm worried about the essays . . .

I really like Cornell, went to visit, and it was ana amazing experience. I really didn't care a lot about American universities till I visited some of the campuses and it just seems like I'll get a better education in a better atmosphere there. If i had known before, I would had taken my SATs earlier and applied ED.

Chances? thanks ahead of time

Also, anyone have stats for the number of international applicants to Cornell? I don't think it's on the statistics site . . .
thanks again

I'm applying as an international from Canada for RD too. I heard competition's tough. My friend last year who got 1580 SATs (800M, 780V), high GPA, good EC's, recs, etc. got rejected. He eventually went to Uchicago though. Good luck.

geez....i am from canada too....ur frd's stats just made me feel that i am going to be rejected or defered in Early Decision..............

any of you guys mind posting your stats?

"My friend last year who got 1580 SATs (800M, 780V), high GPA, good EC's, recs, etc. got rejected. He eventually went to Uchicago though. Good luck."

Honestly, either your definition of good EC's is very inaccurate, or the guy lied on his app or did something stupid. Cause 2 ppl from my hs last year went to cornell and they both had subpar stats compared to normal cc users

well my friend was an international applicant so it's tougher...
as for his EC's, he had some kind of national chess recognition, did a lot of swimming work, was a lifeguard, taught swimming lessons, varsity swimming, etc.

my stats are: 700V 800M 740W, 800mathii, 800chinese, 780physics
97gpa, no class ranking, toughest courseload

Volunteer in library, local chinese school
went to china, volunteered at an orphanage

Any idea how many Canadian applicants apply each year and how many get in?

^^phroz3n, why did you take chinese SAT II?
and you are so MATHY!!! Ivies like people who are linguistic and stuff. But other than that, you are awesome

i guess admission rate for canadians is generally higher than that of other internationals ?????

I took chinese satii in my sophomore year, after studying a lot in Chinese school, so I thought it would be better to just take it and get it over with. Hah yeah, I am "mathy"...taking Calc 3 and soon, differential equations, which I find both very interesting. However, I also like to read, and I find all kinds of history (us, euro, chinese) interesting as well.

I think the admissions rate for canadians is probably lower since so many apply. I'm not sure though, since few schools release this kind of data.
