In general, is the international curve (I took it in Canada) harsher, more lenient, or the same as the American curve?

For writing, I had a different topic that I haven't seen in any of the essay threads yet. o__o

In general, is the international curve (I took it in Canada) harsher, more lenient, or the same as the American curve?

For writing, I had a different topic that I haven't seen in any of the essay threads yet. o__o

^same… I had a different topic too, but the prompt seemed easier.

It’s random, hence a standardized test. Collegeboard does not intentionally make the international exam any easier or harder than the American one. There are minor differences. So the curve is not always one or the other.

Well, the only difference between the international exam and the domestic one is the writing topic, right? They do it because of the time difference, so that a student from Japan won’t tell an American kid what the topics were. So, I don’t see a reason why the curves should be different

No. As far as I know, the international version is different from the US version in every section.

Wrong. We had exactly the same sections as you guys.

That’s strange. US tests were different from international tests in June. If the tests were the same in October I don’t see the point of the OP’s question.

Yes, the international test is the same as the US test for all QAS dates. I asked this question some time ago.

I’m assuming that consequently the curves will be the same. It would be unfair for one group to have it easier than the other because when you apply you’re competing against domestic students.

nah, just the notion that internationals may be scaled differently because it’s a different group of people (maybe be less familiar with the SAT) writing. but yeah, it does make sense because the tests by definition need to be standardized between administrations,

if the essay topics were different, however, wouldn’t it make sense for there to be different conversion tables depending on the essay topic? depending if one was easier or harder?

^I don’t think they intended a prompts to be easier or harder. It all depends on your expertise on whether you think a certain prompt is easy or hard. If it happens that you just finished a novel having a theme related to the prompt, then the essay would obviously seem easier.

I highly doubt the internationals would be scaled different. Internationals make the curve go up because they’re self-selective.

But I agree that the writing prompt is different probably because of the time zone difference.

If the test was the same, the curve was the same. QAS months (Oct, Jan, May) have the same tests for both US and International.

Also, multiple essay questions (I’ve seen as many as four) are used on the same test day, and there is a different writing curve for each essay.
