I am searching for textbooks for the spring and found that for some of my required textbooks, the International Editions are significantly cheaper than the U.S edition, usually by more than 20 bucks. So I wonder if it is worth to buy the International Edition instead of the one listed on the bookstore website? Will the books have different texts/problems?

Thanks in advance for the helps!

To save money, I buy my S and D their books online way in advance also. This question of international editions has been raised on CC before – the books can be different and you never know when. The difference is usually in the exhibits or in the end-of-chapter problems. If your prof requires the CD for online access to submit homeworks, do not buy an international edition as it will not include this. International is almost always paperback which is also a substantial reason it’s less $$.

In short-- I think it’s a risk to do this. You might miss something. Some students do the “rent a text” option and use their printing queue at CMU to print the book.

BTW-- my best savings have been on half.com since I buy directly from individuals rather than “dealers”.
You can also post on FB page for your class- -probably someone already took the class at CMU and will sell you the book. D has found books that way from people offering to sell books.

Thanks a lot mom2012and14! I will try asking around as see if anyone is willing to sell their books at a good price. Thanks!
