International Engineering Scholarship deadline

They say "due by March 16". Does that mean postmarked or received by?

I don’t know…and how are they going to pick? Just based on your essay? They say they are only giving 100-150 scholarships out…there are about 1300 engineering students that will enroll in the fall…how do they choose with just an essay?

Yeah, it says “we will award scholarships based upon the merit and quality of your personal statement”.

Great.

well i’m not sure that they sent an application to everyone, and not everyone who got an app applied

Is this the one for studying abroad?

I wasn’t planning on doing that til sophomore year. o_O

It is postmarked. I called the school because I wasn’t sure if it would get there on time because it arrived two weeks after they sent it to get to me and they told me it just has to be mailed by the 16th.

Oh thank goodness. Time to go write my personal statement… :D

did anyone hear anything back on this scholarship? I heard they were going to notify students the week of April 6th…

Nothing yet. I called last week and they said they would be making the decisions on the 6th and then notifying students this week or shortly thereafter.

Anyone hear about this yet?

Anyone???

I haven’t heard yet.

Anyone get this? I just got my rejection today.

rejected too…wonder what they were looking for…I don’t think they had too many scholarships to give. I don’t know what they were basing their decision on…

That’s bizarre. I just came from a meeting with several engineering deans who talked about the IPENG scholarship claiming that all applicants received one, must have been a misnomer. Sorry to hear the bad news. :(

cooljay-maybe you can report back to the deans for us that there were some disappointed students that were rejected. The application only called for a short essay. The letters were most likely sent to students who have not fully committed to Illinois since it is before May 1st. They may say they are coming but just want to know what scholarships are available to them. What happens to the scholarships if they don’t attend? I am committed to attending. Oh well…just a bit of a dispappointment…it would be nice to give the deans some feedback.

I was accepted for the scholarship, but am fairly sure that I will not be attending UIUC. I’m sorry that others were disappointed, but I did not apply just to know if I could get it. I seriously considered Illinois, but have realized that it probably is not the best place for me. Hopefully the scholarships will be reassigned or current students can reapply.

Cooljay, this was confusing! Son was also rejected, and frankly that puzzles me. Being chosen for the Campus HOnors Program, fantastic stats, and a pretty good essay (nothing mind blowing, but after all it was limited in scope), and nothing.

That’s very strange. All I can suspect is perhaps either 1) more applications were received than normal with the continued push to study abroad and/or 2) the funding pool was cut due to some sort of budget cuts or lack of donation given the economy? Sorry to hear the bad news.

I did receive the scholarship. Im not entirely sure what they were looking for but I think i put down a fairly well tailored, concise essay. Perhaps it was a random draw? lol i dunno…
