International fin aid

I am an international student interested in pursuing ee at Brown. I want to know whether Brown is generous towards intl’s in giving aid? (or will it become more competitive than HYMP if I ask for aid) I will be needing a huge amt of fin aid.

Anyways, how is the Electrical Engineering division of Brown? Any idea?

thnx

hey there, im an intl too and want to study civil engineering at brown. in fact ive applied as an early decision applicant (tho my sat scores suck...barely a 2000) and my EC's are just about decent! ive been told by a brown alumnae that brown's engineering is pretty strong...toptier among the ivies..but its not such a great research university. it has a way better undergraduate program in engineering sciences than say big research places like harvard, upenn etc. o well...thas abt all i kno...and i'll be needing a huge finaid package too (100%!!) to attend any frickin college..brown is supposed to start a need-blind policy for admitting intl students sometime in the future...so for now our need for financial assistance is gonna play a part in admission decisions...anyway...good luck with ur apps...btw, wat r ur stats (sat, EC's etc)?

brown isn't all that good with normal financial aid. i doubt they'll be very generous giving international financial aid.

do you have a numerical value of "not very generous" ?

hey thanks folks for ur reply. ill be needing a whole lot of aid (~90-95%). will that brown be able to satisfy?

moreover, does anybody have an idea about the no of international students getting accepted to brown with aid?

i have heard that Brown's intl aid stats are much lower than dartmouth and columbia (offering less than 40 students a yr). is it so?

anyways aranya, nice to meet you ! my sats are as poor as urs and ecs are fine. ill be applying for electrical engineering. well, good luck and best wishes to you too. cya

i also found out that Brown received a $100 million donation to offer need-based fin aid. did it have any effect on Brown's generosity towards giving fin aid to internationals?

the $100 million donation created the sidney frank scholars program and that's only for domestic applicants.

i have no idea what a numerical value would be, but i do know that brown's endowment isn't too great so prospects for international financial aid aren't great. i know quite a few international students here and most of them are paying for everything, or their gov. is paying for a portion.

Brown has a $2.3 billion endowment, the 25th largest in the United States. I would not qualify that sum as being "not too great."

Compared to HYP, however, it really isn't that big. Smallest in the Ivy league...

True, but that still does not make it an insignificant endowment. Brown's endowment divides into $239,584 per student. A figure that is larger than Columbia's (Which has a $5.2 billion) endowment.

Brown does not guarantee to meet demonstrated need of international students. So if you need financial aid, I would apply to other schools, because chances are you will not get all you need from Brown.

what if I only need about 1/3 to 1/2 of the full paid? I don't think that asking for.. too much?

and where does it say that?

This is from the Financial Aid section on Brown's International Applicants page:

"Brown meets full demonstrated need of all admitted students who have applied for financial aid. Financial aid for foreign citizens, however, is limited. If you wish to be considered for financial aid at any time during your four years at Brown, you should apply at the time of admission. All financial aid at Brown is awarded solely on the basis of financial need, which is determined annually by our analysis of applications submitted by students and their families."

Financial Aid

* International students eligible for need-based aid
* Number of enrolled international undergraduates received aid: 110
* Total amount awarded : $3,867,732

That amount then averages to about 35,000$ per student.

yeah u know what?

people talk a LOT of **** .. but thats just one of the flaws of internet/free speech ..ppl say whatever they want and others who need advice take it as gold.

is there a button where i can filter any replies that are just bullshat wa nkers talking for the sake of talking
