International Finaid

Just out of curiosity: did ANY international asking for financial aid got accepted from Amherst? Thanks for any insights!

I wasn't accepted. Asked for full package.

I did... but I'm waitlisted...

Hm, hopefully Williams really doesn't care whether we applied for finaid or not.

I asked for aid and got in...

danielcarp17, are you international? If yes, where are you from? Do you mind posting your stats? Also, did you ask for much aid or just a little bit?

I am Honduran and I need a lot of aid (still haven't heard my fin aid info though).

Quick stats? 790CR, 730M, 670W. 780 World History SAT II, 760 Physics SAT II. Almost perfect score on the TOEFL (don't remember my score), I know I had extremely good recommendations, 91% average during high school, apparently good essays, the usual stuff?
If you ask me, my nationality has helped me stand out a lot. I'm sure there aren't many Honduran applicants out there, unlike Indians or Nepalis for example.

Damn. I have similar stats but got waitlisted. International applying for aid too.

danielcarp17: I guess your nationality really helped you, I have to admit that I actually never heard of your country before your post :D Anyway, congratulations to your acceptance!

Well Honduras should not be that unknown if you plan studying in the States. We're just two countries below the States and the Mayas inhabited part of Honduras.

But I understand what you mean :D

I asked for a lot of aid and got rejected.
Well, actually first deferred ED and then rejected RD.

I asked for a full ride and I got waitlisted

but ughh haha as of yesterday, I am no longer international...soo yea :)

Amherst will accept you if they really like you, and then give you any amount of fin. aid you need. I am accepted, and they offered fin. aid of over $53,000, Amherst is that kind of place(I'm int'l, by the way). And you are more likely to be selected in a better college, so never worry about rejections. I was rejected from Dickinson, Oberlin, Hamilton, Swarthmore, Connecticut College & waitlisted in Reed, Kenyon, Middlebury. All I was getting were disappointing results, and then bam! And everything changes. So do not feel disappointed, it is definitely possible to be rejected by Amherst & accepted by HYP.
