which colleges are very friendly and open to internationals? i.e. where internationals fit in well with the general domestic student population.

Well, Macalester seems to use it as its trademark.

I don’t think there is a place where internationals generally don’t fit in with the general domestic student population. You just need to find a college with an atmosphere that appeals to you. Do you want to go to classes in high heels or Birkenstocks? (sorry if you are a guy :)) Do you want a collaborative or a competitive learning environment? Do you want to party hard every day, once or twice a week or not at all?

Imagine a party-school whose student body is extremely outgoing - you would not fit in unless you like to party. Some internationals would love it while others might have a hard time integrating themselves.

The ‘fit’ considerations become less important as the size of a college increases. If you want to attend a LAC with 1,000 students, you better be sure that you are in tune with the student body. At public universities with an enrollment of 20,000+, you will find your niche even if you are not the average student.
