international, good academics but i ask for a lot of fin aid

i am from romania and my SATs are: CR - 720, Math - 690, Writing - 670, SAT II - Latin 650, German 660, Literature 760. I have a high gpa : 9.91 on a 1 to 10 scale. TOEFL iBT- 118/120

lots of volunteering - community service 11th and 12th, centre for English resources in my high school - all four years, part of my student government 11th and 12th, debate team - 10th and 11th, part of the yearbook team 10th 11th,editor and editor in chief of my high school's English magazine - all four years, part of a leadership club 9th and 10th

i have awards in English, both locally and nationally, regional and international awards in debate in (in English and my native language), I won the national Peace Corps essay contest, and various other awards. my common app essay is pretty good, about a moment when i stood up against the antiquated system in my country.

also, i have great recommendations, one of them from a former peace corps volunteer, and am also sending the latest magazine issue, which looks really good

i am looking for a political science and literature double major, and am applying at: Macalester, Vassar, Davidson, Colby, Carleton, Kenyon, Hamilton, Bates, Bowdoin, Harvard, Oberlin, Lehigh, Dickinson and Middlebury. However, my parents can only provide me with 2000 dollars a year for the tuition and the rest of the costs. What are my chances of getting sufficient fin aid?

Thanks a lot

International+Financial Aid = tough competition.... So you never know.. All the best though

i would say your looking at taking out a loan for all of them! (sorry) and only getting into lehigh (maybe scholarship if u have stronger ECs or good essay and rec)..oberline, davidson, .. dont know much about the rest sorry.. (middlebury and harvard doubtful due to financial aid)

I think you have a good chance at finaid at the likes of Bates. If Bates takes you, they will most likely meet your demonstrated need. Your stats are good enough! (Bates doesn't require the SAT)

Vassar and Hamilton could be a fit, they are very nice and generous to internationals (I am also applying there, so I did my research)
Carleton and Davidson give financial aid to 20-30 internationals, it is quite hard to be chosen.

Your SATs are low for some of those schools, but everything else is pretty amazing in my opinion. have you looked into whether any of these have "need-blind admissions"?

harvard is need blind to international, so it wont affect yur decisions

most ivies are needblind to internationals and all are needblind to all applicants in US,

and even nowadays, many new top-tier colleges are giving excellent financial aid to international students

so financial aid is nothing to worry about

what you need to worry about is your SAT score

well, there really isn't anything to do about my SAT score now. i've already applied. but i am counting on my essay and on my recs, which are excellent (the recs). also, i have a friend who finished at my high school who's currently at kenyon, and she wrote me a terrific recommendation as well, so i think the best chances i have are at kenyon. thanks a lot, people :)

Well, lolapurple, I am in the same situation as you. I am from Bulgaria (we are neighbors ;)) and my family can provide the same amount of money for me (there are probably very few students in the Balkans who can fully pay for US education), so I am really worried about my chances too.
All I can say is that chancing an international asking for aid is a crapshot. What makes me hopeful (though every time I read in this forum I become desperate) is that I know a lot of guys from Bulgaria who are in US colleges with same amount of fin aid.
My stats are similar to yours, maybe worse
SAT (composite) M 800 CR 660 Wr 690 SAT2 Math1 800 Math2 800 Physics 800 toefl 106/120
My gpa is also high 6.00/6.00
I think my recs are really good, because the teachers and the counselor know me for very long time, while for my essays I hope they are good (I've done my best, but I am not the best writer I know).
As for EC what I really hope to make me stand out is my passion for math and physics. I have a lot of awards in national and international competitions in math and physics, but when I see the dozens of indians and asians with a hell more awards and perfect sats and outstanding ECs I want to cry. Yeah, I also have some good activities: I was in the basketball school team for 2 years, and 3 years in the handball team, a member of the student council for 4 years, also in the Youth Parliament in my city, volunteered in the Bulgarian Red Cross, and also some minor activities. However, I am so worried that I am freaking out. I've applied to some colleges and will to some more (I am a typical procastinator). We both applied to Colby, Dickinson and Lehigh, so we are kind of rivals :) All I can say that I keep my fingers crossed for both of us. Who knows maybe we can go to the same college and get to know to each other.

yeah, i really hope we can both get in. i like all of the colleges that i applied to, but my top four are vassar, macalester, harvard and kenyon in no specific order. i only applied to harvard because i got a letter from them asking me to, even though i know i won't get in. however, i would be really happy to get in any of the colleges that i applied to. btw, your sats are great
