international GPA

Hey

I'm from Poland, and I wish to attend some good U.S college.
I got SAT 2240 (m:800, w:740, cr:700), and SAT's II in math, physics & world history 800's

but I also have a GPA 4,15 out of 6, which produces ~ 2,76 out of 4 :(

In high school, we can't choose courses, so "course choice" is always most demanding. I addition, "the six" (A) is given only for extracurricular knowledge on the subject and awards, so even the best student have only 5,5 (but he is the kind of life-stupid, with no passions). In polish school system, grades are not considered in college admissions (test scores only).

I'm going to apply MIT, because of it's unpredictable admissions, but do you think there are other good colleges I have at least a chance? My essay will be totally twisted :P

please help me...

Don't convert your GPA

I converted just for better understanding my problem.
We have kind of describing grade scale

1 - fail
2 - pass
3 - satisfactory
4 - good
5 - very good
6 - above requirements

so if I have mostly 4's, few 5's, one 6 (p.e., though) and few 3's (math and chemistry too, but these are nice grades for such subjects in my HS), that means I have no chances to be admitted to good college? And are there colleges in which test scores are more important than grades?

If you imply in your essay or your counselor recommendation that you are a international student and attach required forms for international students, admission officers will understand your situation. I'm sure they're more than familiar with polish or any kind of international grading systems :)
