Hey,
I would like to know how would you compare I House to other residence halls. I plan to apply for dorms as an exchange students, but I don't have much information about them. It seems like rates are quite close for both cases.

Hi there,
I am an American Berkeley student who has lived in IHouse and Unit 3 and had a really great time in both. The differences between them are:

-IHouse has only one dining commons with okayish food, dorms allow you to use meal points all over campus
-IHouse tends to host older students, and at least in my experience, have more parties, whereas the dorms normally are home to freshman in their first months away from home
-IHouse is a bit more expensive I think, but perhaps its negligible
-IHouse hosts mostly foreigners, whereas the dorms is home to mostly Americans (and Californians)

I personally LOVED IHouse and would have lived there for a long time if it had not been so expensive. It’s a great experience that allows you to meet people from all over the world. On the flip side, it also may mean not hanging out with a lot of Americans, which you may or may not be looking to do as part of your study abroad experience. I was one of the few Americans in IHouse and enjoyed showing my foreign friends around, but you might not get to have that experience in IHouse unless you work harder to make friends other places.
