international house & polisci dept

i'll be starting grad school at u chicago in the fall (phd in political science) and i've never been there. i'm out of the country so i won't have time to visit before i start so i was thinking about living at the i-house so i don't have to deal with the apartment hunt for my first year since i don't know the city at all. i was wondering if it's generally a pleasant place to live. i'm not thrilled with the idea of sharing bathrooms (i applied for a room with one in it but i'm not sure what the chances are of getting one) and a kitchen but i do like the idea of a diverse crowd and social events in the convenience of my own building. any thoughts?

i'd also appreciate any comments about the polisci deparment, especially lisa wedeen.

I-House is a nice place to live. It's close to campus, has a lot of programming, and the three undergraduates and one undergraduate who have lived there have liked it.

Lisa Wedeen has major thumbs-up on course evaluations from both undergrads she's taught in core and other poli sci classes.

thanks unalove. do you mean three undergrads and one grad? or vice versa?

3 undergrads and one grad, sorry for the repeat.

There's only one (community) bathroom per floor at the I-House. Otherwise, you get a pretty sweet deal. You have to apply to live there though, so don't let that be your only option.
