I just got email from Harvard about my application missing teachers evaluations. The problem is that my school won't submit these, they denied, and they aren't obligated by law of my country to do this. So I can't do anything to actually get this part of application. What now? Will Harvard ignore my application? I'm only student, I can't give orders to school officials.

Ask Harvard. That's the only place that can answer you.

That sure sounds like a nice school...

Bremsespor: heh...

omgomg, I'm an international as well and the same thing (incomplete apps) happened to me. I think it says somewhere on the recommendation forms that teachers are always supposed to keep an original of the form and send out copies on the student's request. Perhaps try speaking to your teachers first instead of your school? Anyway, I find that most US colleges tend to misplace/not receive forms from internationals so I guess they should be slightly more sympathetic to your situation.

I talked with teachers and principal - one teacher wanted to write recommendation letter but principal didn't let him :/

Whaaaaaat? How would the principal even know?

are you living in a dictatorial regime? go directly to your teachers and tell them not to tell the principal.

I am an international student ...and the problem is same
actually in our schools teacher a compelled to abide by school rules.

What if you meet them (both teachers) after school? If you could meet them in a cafeteria or at home, for instance?

This principal kid kinda scares me, though. Doesn't he want his students to be successful? I can't believe those are school rules (Hey, paragraph one says we'll disadvantage our students when they apply to the US by not writing recs!) Sounds crazy.

Do they (school admin) know sufficiently about the application process? Maybe if you used plain reasoning with them (I need this and I need that or else 29000=scr*wed).

yeah, do away with all the administrative bollocks and go to your teachers directly. i think they should be allowed to send another copy without getting it certified or stamped by the school anyway.

i don't get your principal's unthinkably peculiar behaviour. its not as if photocopying a rec would take up a considerable portion of your teachers' time anyway. and it is for harvard after all..

my country is against emigration... this year new law came out and students can't take international examinations (thankfully i've took my tests last year). I'm not sure about SATs, but students can't take German Abitur, French examinations, etc.

teacher that wanted to write evaluation freaked out and now he doesn't want to do this. other teachers don't want either.

yeahhh, my principal is *******, heh.

Then you should send ol' Harvard an email ASAP and tell them what's going on. If they want confirmation, give them your school's email or phone number.

I can't imagine, not only going through the whole applying-to-the-us-as-an-intl-thing and then at the same time having your country and your school working against you. But knock 'em down!

Good luck.

wow, thank you :)

yeah, i sent them email. the thing is that i wrote about missing documentation in short 'special circumstances' essay which was attached to front of the application (ok, ok - right after portfolio cd ;)). maybe they didn't noticed it. (it was divided into sections and had 'missing documentation' section, though.) lol, i'm going to faint xD.

you know, this could perhaps be your 'hook' in a perverse sort of way. after harv is known for taking in students from diverse backgrounds and this is certainly diverse enough. all the best!

i don't think they'll consider my application.

i sent multiple emails and they didn't replied. i called them today. after saying that teacher evaluations are very important part of application over and over again they said that they will consider it but they didn't asked what's my name and tried to finish this call fast.

that's very confusing. they claim that they're interested in diversity but they ignore applications.
