International kid with low EFC needing help

Howdy people
Im a rising IB senior kid from Vietnam. I love Texas A&M and Im thinking of applying to it. My parents contribution is very low though, about $10k max per year. I don't know if my stats are good enough:

Im expecting my predicted IB scores to be around 38 - 40. Im taking four Higher Level subjects if that means something.
9th and 10th grades among top 5% in my class ( different school, doesn't use the IB system, one of the best high schools in VN)
SAT 1400 (CR + M ) first and only shot.
ECs:
Class monitor from grade 6 to grade 10.
Among the best kids to meet with VN PM.
A lot of community service.
raised $3k all by myself for the unprivileged kids.
I've done 3 internships so far but the longest one is at a Japanese factory for 3 years

My essay is pretty special I guess: its about how I adapted to live all by myself in the capital of Vietnam for the last two years while coming from the poorest parts of the country. BTW, Vietnamese are quite common in the states I guess but Im not from the big cities cause in my area nobody actually can afford to go to the states.

A full ride would be fantastic too but I'm aware that good business schools don't usually go with big packages. :(

what are you majoring in

Oops. Sorry i forgot to mention. I wanna go to a B school

Hey nmtuan I am also an international here who has already applied to TAMU. I think your chances of getting in is pretty good, given your good SAT score and 25% class rank, you should be an auto-admit. Regarding the Finaid, I really have never heard about cases of international who are given finaid after they applied for it, at least in this forum. @ Wiiplay( pardon me if i got ur name wrong :P) he is an international who applied for finaid last year. not sure he has gotten any.

Hey emportant. So do y think i should switch to some other target which is more realistic?

Thanks for the reply btw And gud luck on your application :)

I suggest you apply first and see what happens, fill up the application, send documents and pay the non-refundable fee. …I still have alot to learn about how finaid for internationals are determined…Maybe I’ll get back to you if I heard of anyone who had applied for finaid successfully. Anw, I guess they will give finaid to a selected few internationals maybe, like the other US schools

And scholarships are just for someone with a perfect SAT I guess

Not necessarily only for those with a perfect score. And congrats on your high score! And good luck.

Howdy nmtuan!

I want to echo cromette’s comment about scholarships not just being for those with perfect test scores. Scholarships & Financial Aid is very proud of their holistic review that takes into account academics, community involvement and leadership, and other factors that make you stand out.

You should contact Scholarships and Financial Aid (https://scholarships.tamu.edu/contact.aspx</a>) and speak directly to an advisor there for more guidance, but I think that all international students with financial need are asked to fill out this paper form: https://financialaid.tamu.edu/Libraries/Forms/InternationalStudentFAApp1314.sflb.ashx</a>.</p>
