International Olympiads are not Prestigious?

"For some students from East and South East Asia, for example, winning a gold medal guarantees access to a university of choice and a fellowship. In some Western European countries and the United States, a medal brings almost no advantages of that kind to the student. "

Is this statement true? Because after being on CC for a while I had thought that getting a medal was a very good hook, whereas here it states " a medal brings almost no advantages". What's up with that?

That statement is definitely false. Where did you read that?

Wikipedia...

it is prestigious.

It must've been posted by a jealous kid who didn't have an international medal.

Wikipedia is the devil!

Wow, this provided quite a laugh.

If you have a international olympiad medal, you're pretty hooked.
