It was made official this fall.
It’s basically just like…a bunch of different department classes - geography, history, barely any government really, economics, foreign languages smashed together. I am guessing maybe in a few years they’ll have a real department maybe.

Our daughter just declared this as her major, but the above poster is correct. Like many schools, this major is a conglomerate of courses from several departments. Daughter is waivering and considering changing her major due to UT’s (lack of) track record.

OTOH, if you look at the course requirements at schools with IR programs that are considered well-ranked, they too piece together courses from various departments. Even Princeton’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs (ranked #2 in one of the undergrad lists) does this. So, I’m not sure if that is a factor as much as UT’s inexperience with providing in-depth study in a particular policy area. Also, UT’s location isn’t exactly helpful…Washington D.C. (Georgetown, GWU) or many east coast schools have better access to certain internship opportunities and career services.

I’m going to be a freshman next year at UT and I just recently got admitted to my major, international relations and global studies . Although I was in the top 10%, my sat score wasn’t so great, it was like 1770 and I still got in.
Have you been admitted to the school yet?

congrats! how come it took so long for u to be admitted if you were in top 10%? thats odd… but ur in and tahts all that matters haha
but no im still waiting… 2nd semester of my junior year i just slipped out of 10% -_-

my stats are up there…

im really worried if i have a chance…

do u think because its a new major, they may have more space available then most majors?

no i was admitted almost immediately, i just got admitted to my major last week.
however, just work extra hard this last semester of junior year, and hopefully you will be okay.
i was constantly moving up and down a couple spots my junior year too, but luckily stayed in it when i sent my transcript in to UT.
