International Relations @ BU?

I’m an international student from Toronto Canada and I got admitted into International Relations at BU. I’m kind of on the fence between going there and staying here in Canada to pursue it. Cost isn’t really a huge issue, I knew what was at stake in terms of money when I applied. I got into the University of Toronto for first year-general, as all Social Science/Humanities students are in the general stream first year. The program starts second year and even then I’m not sure I’ll be able to get in. I absolutely love Boston and I’ve only read great things about campus life there. There’s really none of that at UT as it’s a huge commuter school. I’m waiting on my decision for McGill, and that probably won’t come until mid-May. They don’t have International Relations as a program, but I’m hoping to get into International Development Studies there second year if I end up going. The deposit deadline for BU is May 1st.

I was wondering if anyone has any additional information on the International Relations program at BU. How reputable is the program? What are its pros and cons? I’ve read that it’s the largest program in CAS, but apart from that it’s all I really know.

Thanks!

if you’re planning on pursuing IR, it may be helpful to do so in your native country. this may be more helpful in getting a job in Canada (if that’s what you want to do.)
that may not be what you want to do, since a lot of the big IR stuff out there is in the US, but as a non-US citizen, you may have some difficulties getting jobs in security-sensitive professions.
however, BU does have very strong IR, and they are good at internship and job placement.

You’re right IR is one of the 2 most popular majors so …

Yeah, I know UToronto is incredibly massive. Toronto the city is much bigger than Boston and feels that way, both in size and feel. Boston will feel almost quaint.
