Hi, I've been accepted into CAS at NYU and was wondering if anyone has any advice regarding the International Relations program?

I know it's an interdisciplinary major, fluency in a foreign language is required and at least a year abroad is encouraged (i.e. I've read all that I can on NYU's site).

I'm also interested in Political Science and Economics so any extra information on those would be greatly appreciated.

I am so confused. I just looked through the IR department website and it says that you apply to the IR program as a sophomore.
I was accepted into CAS and my first choice major stated on CommonApp was IR; my second choice was economics. What major will I be enrolled in?

Even if you put a major on your application you are enrolled as undeclared. Most (all? not sure) majors require that you have accumulated a certain number of credits before you declare.

The IR major is a honors-only major, you have to take two required courses during freshman year and after that you apply to the program. It's really selective, only 15 people a year I believe. good luck!

Wow, looks might a few of us might end up competing then! Do you guys have any career aspirations involving IR? What future job opportunities do you think it might open up? NGO work, and perhaps stuff involving the IMF, World Bank and UN comes to mind, but I'm sure that's a really simplistic and narrow view.

I've heard you can get a broad range of jobs with it, but I'm having a little trouble imagining some of the top banks or companies recruiting IR majors over accounting or finance kids. Then again, maybe that's what postgrad is for?

I'm not sure yet what I want to do in the future, I just find that type of stuff really interesting.

I'm not sure what I want to do with an IR degree. All I want to do for now is to learn more about the world, but I definitely want to end up somewhere that is tied internationally.

If i do IR, ill prolly become a lawyer but then down the line i'd LOVE to be a diplomat.
or an adviser to the president lol! my dream job would prolly be an ambassador

I'm also an NYU CAS acceptee who wants to major in International Relations (and also East Asian Studies). I'm sure NYU's IR program is really good, considering its location, etc etc. I don't know what I want to do with a B.A. degree in IR yet but I'd really love to do something international too! Thinking of a language interpreter, international trade-ish... etc. right now.

ANYONE ELSE WHO COULD EXPLAIN US MORE ABOUT NYU'S IR PROGRAM???
Thank you :):):)

Why go to NYU when only 15-20 lucky souls per Admission Rep. will be able to enroll in IR program. For $52K/yr I would consider GWU, AU or GW.
Go Gators
Go Gators, even though I was admitted to NYU.
